Brewers Towner International: Exhibiting artists announced!
Posted on 16 May 2022Following our recent Open Call, we are excited to be able to announce the final list of exhibiting artists for Towner Eastbourne's upcoming show, Brewers Towner International. The 23 artists have been selected by an esteemed panel including Elizabeth Price (artist and Turner Prize winner,) Sepake Angiama (Director, Iniva) and Noelle Collins (Exhibitions & Offsite Curator, Towner Eastbourne). The exhibition will feature artists living and making locally in Sussex, Kent and Hampshire, as well as those working and exhibiting nationally and internationally.
“Making a selection for Brewers Towner International was not an easy task because of the calibre and range of the artists that we reviewed. Each and every selection was discussed and agreed upon by the jury panelists. I look forward to seeing the exhibition come together so that the public can enjoy seeing the work of artists living in and around Eastbourne alongside artists from other parts of the country and the world.” - Sepake Angiama, Artistic Director, Iniva
Exhibiting artists include:
Nigel Caple, Graham Ellard and Stephen Johnstone, Ufuoma Essi, Hicham Gardaf, Steph Goodger, Sharon Haward, Maud Haya-Baviera, Kevin Hendley, Melanie Jackson, Amanda Kyritsopoulou, Dene Leigh, Christophe Lennox, Edward Liddle, Benjamin Phillips and Amy Fenton, Karen Russo, Lara Smithson and Harald Smykla.

Brewers Towner International will explore the theme of SANCTUARY; which can be interpreted as a physical space, a place offering safe haven, asylum or refuge; it can be understood as an area or environment where endangered species are protected, diverse ecosystems flourish and wildlife is preserved; it can also suggest a space of the imagination, a meditative mental space of solace and respite from the exterior world.
Alongside the exhibition a Public Programme of events and live performances will feature Lucy, Patrick Hough, Felix Melia and Ramona Ponzini. Keep an eye out on our events listings and social media channels for further updates and announcements.

“Brewers Decorators merchant and Towner Eastbourne were both founded over 100 years ago and share their roots in Eastbourne.
