Wriggle Room: Open Studio Animation
To celebrate Wriggle Room’s first birthday in May 2023, Towner invited lead artists Katy Beinart and Lydia Hunt (2022 -24) to create an space that invited the public to celebrate and share in the programme’s imaginative and playful space with interactive performative and visual elements including shadow play, dens, butterfly mobiles, costumes and a film and soundtrack that filled the space with the energy of our sessions.
The film’s stop-motion puppetry elements and marbled backdrops were conceived by the artists as a way to creatively respond to the South Downs, changing seasons and Towner’s collection. Over the course of the year, each caregiver and child were empowered to interpret the activities in their own way. Participants were then supported in creative movement and performances within sessions which the viewer will see in the second half of this film.
