Writers, poets and artists are warmly invited to join Akila Richards in a creative writing workshop responding to the topic of Creative Rest. Participants will explore their responses through music, breath, prompts and creative meditation.
Produced by Take the Space, this event forms part of Akila's REST Residency in Eastbourne as part of Eastbourne ALIVE, the wraparound programme for Turner Prize 2023.

About Akila Richards
Akila Richards is an award-winning poet, writer and spoken word artist, performing and collaborating nationally and internationally. Her work features in collaboration with artists and genres for theatre, film, visual arts, and digital platforms. Her portfolio includes facilitating and initiating creative and cultural events, offering creative workshops, managing projects, and providing mentoring and coaching to writers.
Following an Artist-in-House residency at Brighton Dome, Akila is developing ‘The Rest Experience’ programme. Her poetry and prose are published for Brighton Festival and in publications at Creative Future, Covert Magazine, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Peepal Tree, Penguin, Waterloo Press, and online platforms. Her latest fiction is included in the speculative anthology ‘Glimpse’ at Peepal Tree Press and two poems for Wasafiri - Writing the Scandal for Windrush. She is currently completing her first poetry pamphlet ‘Ritual for a Mango’ and writing her first novel for publishing.
REST, MY RESISTANCE
REST, MY RESISTANCE includes a programme of poetry and creative writing session on the theme of rest as resistance and what it means to us and collectively. The programme will culminate in a Rest Residency and showcase performance. The programme is brought to you by Take the Space in partnership with Eastbourne ALIVE.
