Eastbourne Studio Pottery is inviting 60 local groups to take part in 30 free, artist-led workshops between November 2023 and May 2024. Each workshop invites six people from two different community, arts, health, or education-focused groups, plus independent businesses in the local area to create together as a catalyst for conversation and the cross-fertilisation of ideas.
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and East Sussex Arts Partnership forming part of Eastbourne ALIVE, participants will be making plates using a wide variety of techniques, not all restricted to traditional ceramics processes.
No previous knowledge of working with clay is necessary as all the techniques will be broken down into easily accessible steps. Participants will be working with 15 visiting artists, supported by the tutors from Eastbourne Studio Pottery, to introduce new ways of working with clay.
The plates will be exhibited at Towner Eastbourne in July 2024. All the workshop participants will be invited to a special tea party at Towner where everyone will be able to take their plate home or do a swap with another maker!
This project celebrates creativity, community, and making connections. We are delighted to be working with Eastbourne ALIVE to celebrate the Turner Prize 2023 and offer the people of Eastbourne a chance to explore working with clay.
