Yanaëlle Thiran The Performance Path Turner Prize Route #1
Eastbourne Walking Festival
Sunday 1 October, 10.30am to 12.00pm, Free (booking required)
Join Eastbourne-based dance artist Yanaëlle Thiran for The Performance Path, a different kind of walking tour, originally created for Eastbourne Walking Festival 2022 and returning this September.
The Performance Path (Turner Prize Route) starts at Towner Eastbourne, follows the seafront promenade, and ends on Holywell Beach.
Along the way, Yanaëlle Thiran performs short pieces of choreography for you. Silent disco headsets will be provided, enabling you to hear the music chosen or composed for each one. Between the performance locations, you will have the opportunity to talk to other walkers, and perhaps share what these dances and pieces of music evoked for you. Yanaëlle will also tell you how local landmarks inspire her movements.
When returning the headsets to Printers Playhouse, you will be invited to get creative in response to the dances. This will be your chance to pick your path (for examples: writing a poem, drawing, or creating a collage of photos of the walk). Artist Loupe Cooper will gather some of your creations in a booklet, to document a range of experiences of The Performance Path.
Supported by grant funding from Arts Council England and East Sussex Arts Partnership, the project is part of Eastbourne ALIVE which celebrates and coincides with the Turner Prize 2023 exhibition.
