Artists Paul Bartholomew, Paul Crocker and Steve Johnston have been building up and sharing a printmaking studio for a number of years now. Although their work is radically different from each other, this dialogue has allowed them to push their explorations of print; including etching, embossing, block type, collagraphs, relief, monotype and digital print. Examples of all the above will be available to view at their show worlds within... at Emma Mason Gallery in February 2024, opening on Saturday 24 February.
Paul Bartholomew comes from a rigorous art historical painterly and abstract tradition where concerns of colour, mass and form are to the fore. Paul Crocker’s background has been in the graphic arts, although his current explorations reverberate around notions of light and surface, and an interest in how geometry supports structure and meaning. Steve Johnston’s work is a "constant struggle” to glean through secular, religious and esoteric narratives how stories through their universality of image have at heart a revealed truth.
The artists will be in attendance and will be available to talk to throughout the show. Free entry, all ages welcome. Open Thursday - Sunday 10.00am - 4.00pm from Saturday 24 February until Sunday 3 March 2024.
