Circles: Drop-in workshops
Friday 2 August, 3.00pm to 5.30pm, Free Admission
Studio 1
Join artists Anne-Marie Watson and Babalola Yusuf in a series of interactive workshops, drawing on themes of writing, paper, speech and memory.
You’ll have the opportunity to drop in to different workshop stations and:
Create handwritten mindfulness drawings
Hear your drawings translated into sound
Experiment with folding and transform drawings into 3D objects
See the colours and shapes of your objects projected onto the gallery walls
This is a drop-in workshop for all ages.
This workshop draws on themes found in Maria Amidu’s exhibition: in the perpetual back and forth. Babalola and Anne-Marie both work on the exhibition’s associated young people’s programme: Babalola is an artist on Banana Sharks and Anne-Marie worked on CoLab Eastbourne.
About Babalola Yusuf
Babalola Yusuf is a multidisciplinary artist interested in how art can explore intersections, how it is possible for a photograph or the repetition of a phrase or simple imagery to transcend itself. Much like a seed which in specific soil, with specific conditions, begins to unfold up and into light – is it possible through an artwork to exist to both soil and sky, to experience eternity in time? Babalola works with performance, painting, film, photography, sculpture and sound and was on Flatland Projects' Early Careers Programme from 2022/2023.
About Anne-Marie Watson
Anne-Marie Watson is an artist, arts facilitator, curator and project manager specialising in creative arts and wellbeing. Her art includes intricate drawings formed of tiny handwriting and large text posters which describe personal memories, thoughts on interesting ideas and topics or the same word repeated to fill the page. She has shown work in exhibitions in the UK and internationally and was artist in residence at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery in 2023 producing two drawings which contain everything she saw and heard during her time there.
