Wood Engraving Course
11.00am to 4.00pm
9 July, 13 August, 10 September
Eric Ravilious, An Athlete, 1933. Towner Eastbourne.
Join us for an introduction to wood engraving, a printmaking technique practised by Eric Ravilious – whose works you can currently see in our Ravilious Gallery – and Suzanne Cooper, an artist included in Reuniting the Twenties Group: From Barbara Hepworth to Victor Pasmore.
You'll draw inspiration from the works exhibited at Towner and create your own wood engravings, learning about the history, techniques, tools and printmakers along the way.
Your tutor will be Emily Johns, a printmaker and painter based in Hastings, Sussex, and experienced wood engraving teacher.
Your first block of wood, tools and other materials such as inking slabs and paper will be provided, and you will be able to purchase additional wood blocks during the class.
The course consists of three masterclasses so that you will have the benefit of improving your skills over multiple sessions to fully understand the wood engraving medium.
A free visit to see Suzanne Cooper’s work in the exhibition Reuniting the Twenties Group: From Barbara Hepworth to Victor Pasmore is included in the course price.
Space has become available for the next two sessions of the course.
Please be aware that your booking payment includes both the August and September session.
£90/pp / £80 Concessions & Towner Members
