In this talk as part of Towner's Heritage Open Days, Kevin Gordon of The Friends of Ocklynge Cemetery will delve into the life and legacy of Alderman John Chisholm Towner, whose bequest of 20 paintings ‘to create a gallery for the people’ started the Towner Collection and the subsequent establishment of Towner Art Gallery in 1923.
The talk will include a visit into the Art Store to view the paintings in the original bequest.
