This spellbinding doc explores the sensational life of late Irish writer Edna O’Brien.
A bewitching chronicler of the 20th century, with a gravitas and mystique all her own, Edna O’Brien was a force to be reckoned with. Effectively banished from Ireland after her sensual, sexually frank debut novel The Country Girls was published in 1960, she settled in London, where she continued to write brilliantly and prolifically for the rest of her tumultuous and colourful life, winning numerous awards and becoming known, variously, as a party girl, one of the finest writers alive and “the Solzhenitsyn of Irish life”. Following O’Brien’s death in 2024, Sinéad O'Shea’s stunning film features excerpts of her personal journals, read by actor Jessie Buckley.
“Thoroughly enjoyable… has a staggering story to tell” ★★★★ The Guardian
