Enjoy an exclusive preview of British painter Ivon Hitchen’s monumental work Day’s Rest, Day’s Work (1960) before its display in Sussex Modernism, and hear about the ‘behind the scenes’ conservation work that goes into preparing a work of art for exhibition.
You’ll hear from Sophie Reddington, an independent paintings conservator who works with many well-known national collections, such as the National Trust and V&A, about the processes and techniques she employs to preserve the mural.
Taking place live in the actual studio Sophie will be working in, the talk will give you access first-hand to the materials and equipment used by Sophie and her team.
The inclusion in this exhibition of Ivon Hitchens' Day's Rest, Day's Work (on loan from the University of Sussex collection), and also contemporary artworks, has been supported by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Impact Acceleration Account (IAA).
