Ethical Taxidermy & Scenery Collage
Join us on 7 March to enjoy drop-in workshops alongside later browsing of Drawing the Unspeakable and Gerard Byrne’s Jielemeguvvie guvvie sjisjnjeli - Film inside an image. Artists Jazmine Miles-Long and Nancy Odufona will provide free drop-in workshops for all ages. The interactive workshop stations will draw on themes of the natural environment, collage and ethical taxidermy.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
· Create little butterfly cases using card and butterfly print outs
· Hear about different ethical taxidermy processes and look at common objects used in taxidermy such as glass eyes, casts and wood bases
· Experiment with cutting and collaging paper created from photocopying stones and other natural objects to make your own landscapes
· See the shapes of your collages projected onto the gallery walls
Within the space you’ll also be immersed in a magical music soundscape curated for the evening.
These workshops are programmed as part of Friday Lates. On the first Friday of each month our galleries are open until 8.00pm with Pay What You Can tickets available for paid exhibitions.
About Nancy Odufona
Nancy Odufona, born in London in 1992, is a multidisciplinary artist. She has lived in Hastings, East Sussex for 19 years and recently moved to Kent.
Her artistic practice spans various mediums, including ceramics, moving image, textiles, found objects and, most recently, print and collage.
Nancy’s work explores themes of alchemy, connection, and transformation, often inspired by our relationship with the environment. Through her art, she encourages us to slow down and re-engage with the world around us, inviting reflection on how we interact with our immediate surroundings.
About Jazmine Miles-Long
Jazmine is a taxidermist, sculptor, restorer and educator. Jazmine works with museums and galleries throughout the UK and internationally creating ethically sourced taxidermy for exhibitions, scientific collections, education and permanent public displays.
Jazmine uses traditional craft methods working in natural and sustainable materials and aims to elevate taxidermy as a respected art form, shedding light on its scientific and cultural benefits through lectures and workshops.
Jazmine only works with animals that have died from natural causes and believes that taxidermy is a poignant reminder that life is fleeting and precious and that we need to work hard to protect it.
