This event has been programmed to mark the opening of Anna Maria Nabirye's immersive installation, The Funnest Room in the House. Tickets for this event include access to a sneak preview of the installation, from 5.30pm.
Can fiction film & television give us clues to what Black British kitchens of the past looked like?
Join artist Anna Maria Nabirye and special guests for an intimate evening of film and conversation. This event marks the opening of Anna Maria's six-day takeover of Towner’s ground floor studio, featuring events alongside the pop-up installation.
Drawing on the rich history of Black British cinema and television, the evening explores how the everyday memories of our kitchens form a vibrant- and often undocumented - archive of the Black British life. Through a curated selection of iconic and rediscovered screen clips, Anna Maria invites the audience to reflect, remember, and connect exploring how film and television can reveal or hide truths about Black British life -do they help explore our own memories or do they replace them when those images are the only ones left for our consumption?
Come early to have a sneak preview of the installation The Funnest Room In The House and to meet the team
