Join us for an afternoon of collective play, movement, and improvisation as part of Sophie Chapman's project Tiger Helix (Oblivion). You're welcome to come and watch, or to step in and take part. This is a work-in-progress sharing of installation works, performance and prompts.
Inspired by spirals in nature, queer ecologies, and the strange science of morphic resonance, this session invites participants to move together, follow curiosity, and see what emerges when bodies share a space without a script. Morph suits will be available to wear for participants - blurring the lines between human, creature, and shimmer - but you can equally take part in your own clothes, or simply watch the world unfold from the sides.
*As the performance can involve physical contact, the invitation for participation is for adults over the age of 18.
What to expect for participants
- We will create a play space made of drawings/projections, with soft lighting and a cushioned floor. Stepping in, you enter another world temporarily.
- Before we begin, we will come together for a guided conversation on what could happen, building on knowledge shared by a Live Performance Intimacy Coordinator. We will also refer to conceptual and poetic prompts.
- In the centre, you'll find objects you can interact with; tiger print morph suits, long scrolls with spirals drawn on them, chunks of poetic text, giant cat ribbons, an ever expanding cushion, instruments hooked up to loop pedals.
- You are invited to play and improvise with objects and each other, or watch from the side, as much as you feel comfy to, for 1 hour.
- Afterwards, we will regroup for a feedback session to discuss what came up.
