Hale County This Morning, This Evening director Ramell Ross delivers a visionary, Oscar-tipped adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
In 1960s Florida, Elwood Curtis is sent to the reformatory Nickel Academy for a crime he didn’t commit. In present day New York, a revelation about the horrendous abuses suffered by the Academy’s students leads Curtis to remember his life-changing friendship with Jack Turner. Based on a profoundly painful chapter of American history, Ross’s film is a remarkable achievement; a bold and beguiling drama about trauma and how it constricts a life.
“A staggeringly beautiful story of resilience… As major and memorable an achievement as any American film this decade” IndieWire
