Using the Sussex Modernism exhibition as a backdrop, this six week course delves into the nuances of different modernist movements in Sussex. Weaving a web of connections between familiar names and largely forgotten artists, each week offers a fresh take on the political and radical story of modernist art making. Led by curator, Dr Hope Wolf.
Each week begins with exclusive out-of-hours access to the exhibition with Hope Wolf to identify and discuss works which will form the focus for that session. Following this, there will be a refreshment break (tea, coffee and pastries provided) and the latter part of the session will provide a chance to further develop ideas and discussions, alternating between lectures in the auditorium and opportunities to discuss relevant works in the Towner Collection.
Dr Hope Wolf is a writer, curator, and Associate Professor in Literature and Visual Culture at the University of Sussex, where she also co-directs the Centre for Modernist Studies. Previously she worked at the University of Cambridge and King’s College London.
