Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Max Riemelt and Ronald Zehrfeld star in Natja Brunckhorst’s hit German heist comedy, a light-hearted story about friendship, community, love and capitalism.
It’s the long, hot East German summer of 1990. In the final weeks before reunification, with Germany poised to change forever, old friends Maren (Hüller), Robert (Max Riemelt – Berlin Syndrome) and Volker (Ronald Zehrfeld – Phoenix) stumble across a fortune in soon-to-be-worthless East German currency.
With just days to work out what to do with before their unexpected windfall becomes useless, the trio assemble their friends and neighbours and hatch an elaborate plan to exploit the cash – outwitting the incoming Westerners and their capitalism before time runs out. But can a community previously living under strict socialist values handle this sudden wealth…?
