Introducing Lunchtime Responses: a new series of events where members of the Towner team invite you to a conversation in the gallery.
You’ll hear new perspectives, unique takes and personal stories about the varied works in the Towner Collection.
In this first session, join Tasveer Shemza, who will be reading an extract from Max Porter’s Grief Is the Thing with Feathers in response to the sculpture Harbinger Bird III by Elisabeth Frink.
Winner of the 2016 International Dylan Thomas Prize, Porter’s debut is a moving meditation on love and loss told through the lens of a grieving family and crow.
It will be read next to Frink’s sculpture in The Living Collection exhibition, for which Frink used discarded leftovers of iron and bronze to create a foreshadowing bird.
After hearing the short extract, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your own thoughts and ask questions.
This is a drop-in, free event for all.
Meet inside Gallery 1 on the first floor.
