Give it some Oomph!
November 2022 - July 2023
Towner Eastbourne worked with The Turing School over the 2022 - 23 academic year to develop a student resource, launching for Turner Prize 2023 at Towner.
Collaborating with artist, musician and author, Richard Phoenix, a group of Year 9 students, The Nibble Bibble Duck Toes (TNBDT), explored creative thinking and contemporary practice. Through artist-led workshops, they have developed tools and tactics that will support schools’ engagement with the Turner Prize exhibition.
From November 2022 to July 2023, the group explored contemporary artistic practice through music, textile, performance, mark-making, dance, collage, poetry, and graphic design. They investigated themes including hierarchy, access and conformity and what that means for young people, both in and out of the gallery space.
The group were supported in the design elements of the resource with graphic designers Work-Form, who have worked with the students designing font and interpretation.
In May 2023, TNBDT visited Towner and claimed the space through interpretations, collaborative studio making and an installation of their work, Mother Monster, on Towner’s ground floor.
