A day of open-ended making for the whole family with Wriggle Room artist Tanvi Kant!
Towner's celebrating our three year partnership with Willingdon Trees Community Centre with a day of crafting, conversation, collaboration and intergenerational co-creation supported by artist Tanvi Kant.
We're inviting families of all ages to join the celebrations and explore themes, ideas and activities introduced as part of our early years programme Wriggle Room. The programme is co-developed by Tanvi, volunteers at the community centre and Towner's Learning team with under-5s and their caregivers.
Free, drop-in and suitable for all ages!
Please note:
We ask that you book a free place for this session, please book one ticket per person for you and your child/ren. You can drop-in and out when you like!
Caregivers are required to stay with their dependents for the duration of the session.
A member of the Learning team will welcome you into the space and give you an overview of the activities and set-up.
Tanvi creates an open studio setting for you to explore at your own pace, engage with materials and play. Tanvi and Towner staff will be around to chat to and support your engagement but there is no right or wrong way of doing things!
There will be crafting materials, both table and floor based, shadow-play installations, a story space and sensory spaces for babes-in-arms and crawlers.
Music will be playing in the space throughout the session.
Food and drink welcome in the space, please take care with hot drinks.
We aim to make this event as accessible as possible. If you have any queries or require access arrangements, please email mollie.howells@townereastbourne.org.uk two weeks before the event date so that we can organise support if needed.
Wriggle Room is Towner's free programme for under-5s and their caregivers on selected Tuesdays during termtime. Our fun and creative sessions are developed by our Lead Artist Tanvi Kant and Towner’s Learning team, building on a three-year early years’ partnership with Willingdon Trees Community Centre.
Wriggle Room develops caregiver and child's creative confidence through sensory exploration and playful crafting on the themes of East Sussex ecology, landscape, folktales and history, occasionally drawing from Towner's collection.
We promote a playful, safe, creative enviroment which promotes social bonds, early skills development and self-led exploration and never outcome focused.
We source and use natural, recycled, resusable materials where possible to promote a deeper engagement with our themes.
Tanvi Kant is an interdisciplinary artist based in Hastings. Repurposing reclaimed textiles, Tanvi has been practising elemental hand techniques for over 17 years creating textile jewellery, participatory installations, collage, and sculpture. Her work has been exhibited around the UK and internationally.
Her intricate works are made by transforming unwanted saris and dressmaking off-cuts through wrapping, coiling, knotting and stitching. Her works explore emotional landscapes through colour-inspired, tactile and organic forms exploring line and negative space.
She studied 3D Design (sustainable practice) at the University of Derby establishing her award-winning jewellery in 2005 and later extended the participatory side of her practice at the Royal College of Art in 2013.
Tanvi has over 15 years’ experience in delivering workshops within a variety of settings including galleries, museums, higher education, women's charities, public spaces, and residential care homes. Her aim is to demonstrate how readily available materials can be transformed with unashamedly simple techniques. She regularly works with the public and community groups, aiming to help people uncover their own visual and tactile stories through materials and to support intergenerational learning experiences.
