Lunchtime Response: Horror tropes in modern Britain
Free, drop-in
Thursday 22 February 2024, 1.30pm
Jesse Darling’s work has questioned how our ancestors might feel being dragged back to life like zombies through the constant reproduction of petrochemicals meant to be long left in the ground.
In response to this idea, Keziah will give a short talk on horror tropes as they relate to life in late capitalist Britain, including snippets from an early draft of her book You and I are Earth. The book is a collection of short stories – all modern horror tales based around ancient folklore.
This is a drop-in, free event for all. Meet in Gallery 2 on the second floor.
This event is part of Lunchtime Responses: a series of events where we invite you to hear new perspectives, unique takes and personal stories about the varied works on display at the gallery.
About Keziah Keeler
Keziah is a member of Towner’s Communications team. She is currently writing a series of short horror stories influenced by her interests in the stagnancy of modern working-class life, Mark Fisher’s ‘boring dystopia’ – a critique of late-stage capitalism – and a deep desire to get closer to something resembling culture in the UK as someone feeling estranged from her class roots.
