In this talk, Sal Shuel, James Boswell's daughter, explores the art and activism of her father. Boswell was one of the ‘three Jameses’ who revolutionised visual satire in the 1930s, witnessed and drew the Battle of Cable Street, and produced unofficial war art comparable to Goya’s Disasters of War and George Grosz’s visions of Weimar. A prolific designer whose painting and print-making continued to develop over a long career, this talk gives insight into a life well lived “warts and all”.
The event will last approximately 1 hour. Please feel free to visit the exhibition afterwards - your ticket will grant you free entry.
