Through recent acquisitions from Towner's Collection, Points of View explores how contemporary artists have created works that consider expansive questions around the climate crisis, the construction of place, meaning and the very nature of human reality. Newly acquired and unseen works by artists Alicja Kwade and Anne Hardy are displayed alongside recent works by Emma Stibbon, Marine Huggonier and Nathan Coley, previously seen at Towner and Eastbourne library.
As the Towner Collection expands to support those rethinking the themes of landscape, place and environment which had influenced its original bequest 100 years ago, these national and international artists' work perfectly reflects the changing nature of such ideas across a century. Made from paint, concrete, found objects, photography, light and drawing all these works highlight the artists’ engagement with their surroundings and the conflicting natures within them, such as past/ future and science/ reality. Visitors are invited to reconsider the world and landscape we inhabit, finding their own interpretations of and connections between the works on display.
